THE HISTORY OF NOKIA


The roots of Nokia go back to the year 1865 with the establishment of a forest industry enterprise. In 1987, Nokia acquired the consumer electronics operations and part of the component business of the German Standard Elektrik Lorenz, as well as the French consumer electronics company Oceanic. In 1987, Nokia also purchased the Swiss cable machinery company Maillefer.
In the late 1980s, Nokia became the largest Scandinavian information technology company through the acquisition of Ericsson's data systems division. In 1989, Nokia conducted a significant expansion of its cable industry into Continental Europe by acquiring the Dutch cable company NKF.
Since the beginning of the 1990's, Nokia has concentrated on its core business, telecommunications, by divesting its information technology and basic industry operations.

Nokia's First

Nokia announced the Nokia NFC (Near Field Communication) shell, the latest step in the development of innovative products for mobile communications, in November. With the Nokia NFC shell on their phone, consumers will be able to easily access a variety of services and conveniently exchange information with a simple touch gesture utilizing NFC technology.
In October, Nokia and TeliaSonera Finland successfully conducted the world's first EDGE-WCDMA 3G packet data handover in a commercial network.
Achieving a first for the Asia-Pacific region, Nokia, MediaCorp Technologies, M1 and the Media Development Authority of Singapore jointly showcased a live end-to-end mobile phone TV broadcast over a DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast - Handheld) network at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore.
Nokia and Texas Instruments Incorporated introduced the first pre-integrated and validated Series 60 Reference Implementation based on TI's OMAP(TM) processor-powered reference design in February. The Reference Implementation is available immediately to Series 60 licensees.
Year 2003 Nokia announced that the world's first cdma2000? 1xEV-DV high-speed packet data phone call was completed at Nokia's CDMA product creation center in San Diego. The call, achieving a peak data rate of 3.09 Mbps, was made between a test set based on a commercially available Nokia 2285 handset upgraded with a Nokia 1xEV-DV chipset and a Racal Instruments, Wireless Solutions Group, 1xEV-DV basestation emulator. This chipset is the world's first to support complete 1xEV-DV Release C functionality.
Year 2002 Nokia succesfully made the first 3G WCDMA packet data calls between its commercial network infrastructure and terminals in its laboratories in Finland. The Nokia 3G WCDMA network and terminal used were based on the commercial standard level known as 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) Release 99 June 2001 version. This was the first time that packet data has been transmitted end-to-end on a commercial system based on the above mentioned commercial standard.
Year 2001 Nokia introduces the industry first multimedia messaging solution, the Nokia Artuse (TM) MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) Center, a high-capacity platform for the next wave of mobile messaging. The solution enables operators to introduce multimedia messaging services combining new rich content, such as audio and video clips, photographs and images with the traditional text messaging.
Nokia and the Finnish operator Sonera conducted the world's first Wireless LAN roaming based on GSM technology. Sonera is making use of Nokia technology that allows mobile operators to offer broadband wireless Internet services in Wireless LAN access zones.
Year 2000 Nokia introduced the world's first IPv6-enabled end-to-end GPRS network. Operators can use Nokia GPRS networks to provide their customers with new types of services that bring benefits offered by IPv6, such as global reachability and end-to-end security.
Nokia introduced the world's first TETRA WAP browser which brings powerful WAP applications to TETRA professional mobile radio networks. WAP over TETRA provides a new method of data communication for professionals. It enables real-time direct access to various customer and technical databases in only a few seconds.
Nokia has combined the versatility of WAP with the power of TETRA to introduce the world's first WAP services for digital professional mobile radio users. The new WAP services have been developed in co-operation with Finnish companies Helsinki Energy and Tekla Corporation.
Nokia and Sonera have completed tests that bring roaming capabilities for IP traffic between GPRS networks for the first time in the world.
Nokia and Scandinavian Airlines Systems announced a partnership to bring Nokia mobile phones to the selection of goods sold on all international SAS flights. This is the first time mobile phones will be sold on airplanes.
Nokia launched the Nokia LiveSite platform, the world's first WCDMA implementation which is compatible with the latest 3GPP standards for third generation networks.

Blackberry tour vs Nokia N97: compare them in the process of making decision

This summer there are some very strong devices out there including Blackberry Tour, Nokia N97, HTC Magic, iPhone 3G S, Palm Pre. Some may prefer iPhone 3G S or Palm Pre, but at last I have narrowed down my choices to Blackberry Tour and Nokia N97, and I’ve had a really tough time choosing between the two:


Blackberry tour:
· Supports high-speed 3G EV-DO Rev
· Non-touchscreen, a large, highly tactile, full-QWERTY keyboard for fast and precise typing
· Advanced media player for videos, pictures and music, a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack and support for the Bluetooth Stereo Audio Profile (A2DP/AVCRP)
· 256MB Flash memory, support cards of up to 16GB
· Built-in GPS with support for geotagging, BlackBerry Maps
· Allowing users to edit Microsoft(R) Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the handset
· Easy mobile access to Facebook(R), MySpace and Flickr(R), as well as popular instant messaging services including BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo! IM, AIM(R), Google Talk and Windows Live Messenger
· Support for BlackBerry App World, as well as third-party mobile applications

· A little expensive, at about $650


That’s the simple information I have got about the two phones. Here I should explain my smartphone requirements. I’m looking for a device to serve as my personal telephone, media player, mini computer and business assistant. For personal telephone, it is used for daily contact, to make calls and receive calls. Both Blackberry tour and Nokia N97 were easy to use and very convenient to dial a number.


For multimedia, both of them are advanced media player for videos, music and pictures. Blackberry tour supports video formats including MPEG4, H.263, H.264 (encoding and decoding 30fps), WMV and audio format including MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA. Nokia N97 can play mp4 and 3gp videos with up to 640*360 pixels resolution. Personally I prefer to watch movies with Blackberry tour. In the meantime I go to Nidesoft Inc to get programs Nidesoft Blackberry Converter Suite, which rip DVDs and videos into Blackberry-friendly files. Just copy the converted file to memory card, pop it into phone’s card slot, and enjoy. Or use program Nidesoft Nokia video converter if you would like to choose N97 as media player.


As for connectivity, the Nokia N97 looks like a good all-rounder, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an Infrared port. The BlackBerry Tour features Bluetooth as well, (with A2DP) but is somehow lacking Wi-Fi (just like the much-derided BlackBerry Storm). Although the rumor said that the Blackberry Storm 2 will have Wi-Fi. N97 also features an FM radio, which the Tour doesn't.

If you always travel around for work then Blackberry can be a wonderful assistant. The BlackBerry Tour smartphone provides the industry's leading mobile solution for email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) and social networking together with built-in GPS. I like type emails and message with the full-QWERTY keyboards fast and easily. N97 also have GPS and can send emails, but the business-oriented Blackberry tour is better for business assistant.


In the end, I make up my decision. The Blackberry tour won out, it made the most sense to me as media player and business assistant. But as I’ve noted the Nokia N97 was also pretty impressive and could be a viable option for many others.

Nokia E75 An Overview

MobileFunatics handled and reviewed a fair amount of Nokia smartphones and feature phones over the years and lately, this leading mobile phone manufacturer has been on a roll, churning out more handsets over the past few months than we can keep track. Without a doubt, Nokia offers some of the most varied line-up of cellular devices to over grace this planet. Sadly though, while they hadn't quite got that mythical iPhone killer and frankly, it seemed they were not really all that bothered maybe the n97 will prove to But before we get our hands on that particular mostel, we took a look at E75, launched last month, and decided it was worth a once-over.
For a smartphone, the E75 is sufficiently specced and a suitable mobile companion for business users who are not into the "latest and greatest" or just prefer more traditional handling method, button keys and all.Of course, as a horizontal slider with a QWERTY keypad, the graphical user interface orients itself accordingly top fit the usage mode. The inclusion of Wi-Fi in addition to the cellular data transfer options was a good design Buyers get a pretty standard bundle of accessories in the package standard for most other mobile phone makers, but generous for Nokia. The following is a quick summation of the phone's usage in terms of benefits and faults.

Prons

1 The phone's appereance isn't going to have passers by stopping and salivating over it from the outside of a display window, but it stil sports a certain class.

2 Voice quality is very good, even while using data protocols through applications such as Skype.

3 Two physical keypads. Yes, two one standard numeric keypad and one horizontal slider QWERTY keypad. This phone is great for texting, e-mailing, instant messaging and even for making the occasional quick edits to office documents.

4 Charging via power adapter and USB link; it may not be a big deal for many people, but for the demographic this phone targets (or should), being able to charge the device while it is linked to a PC or Mac is truly a mandatory bension or smartphones.

5 Very decent battery life, Real-world tests saw the device holding up through moderate to heavy use for a whole day, and sometimes a bit longer, on one charge.

6 Dedicated camera button; a small, but although thoughtful feature to include on a good phone with a decent camera. This is a feature that N-series phones have had for a bit, but is first on E-series devices. The caveat is that it needs to be held down for a few seconds before it switches to camera mode.

Cons

1 Unstable firmware/OS; while still better than some of the other Nokia smartphones, visual artefacts in animated GUI transitions and occasionally poor respnsiveness was noticeable and we did not even stress the device, not even a little bit. After a certain amount of usage, you can actually see the step-by-step process of the UI rendering itself to the next screen as you traverse the S60 grid style menu. It's quite like seeing things in slow motion.

2 No dedicated power button; for someone used to pressing the End key to return to the main menu, a dual End/Power key can be irksome. This is primarily a user preference of course.

3 Somewhat tedious UI navigations and counter-istuitive icon/menu arrangement. Ah Nokia, spend some of that big R&D budget on redesigning a more intuitive user interface It really is about time.

4 QWERTY keypad can be a tad frustrating, even after you get use to it. There is something about its spacing of keys that just doesn't lend itself comfortably to one's thumbs, big or small.

5 T9 texting requires a fair amount of patience. The predictive text dictionary is initially limited and typing with T9 requires a fair bit of floating your thumbs back and forth between the D-pad and the QWERTY.


The Bottom Line

At a price of 37500 rupees, the E75 is a feature filled as it should be. While it's not quite a revolutionary bundle of chips, It is still a very capable phone and mobile device, with fairly use messaging and internet browsing capabilities and a bunch of other features. A decision to purchase this phone would primarily come down to personal preferences. As a side note, it's probably best to use the E75 with a post-paid subscription; we noticed that while it was possible to specify which data profile to use (in essence, EDGE or Wi-Fi), despite being explicity told to run on Wi-Fi only for any number of online tests, at the end of the day, a significant amount of usage mintues would mysteriously disappear.

1st known malware for the S60 3rd edition platform just appeared on the internet.

Isexplayer is an application that acts as a pornographic portal offering myraid "services".
Once the .sis file is installed,the software reportedlly automatically dials a premium-rate international phone number without the owners'knowledge.

Same as any other symbian S60 malware,this worm requires authorization from the user to install and it does ask for your permission before it starts to make calls,but only once during installation.

I think we should keep Kaspersky updated and get ready for the battle

China may Attack India by 2012:Exprts!

A leading defence expert has projected that China will attack India by 2012 to divert the attention of its own people from ¡°unprecedented¡±
internal dissent, growing unemployment and financial problems that are threatening the hold of Communists in that country. ¡°China will launch an
attack on India before 2012. There are multiple reasons for a desperate Beijing to teach India the final lesson, thereby ensuring Chinese supremacy in
Asia in this century,¡± Bharat Verma, Editor of the Indian Defence Review, has said.
Verma said the recession has ¡°shut the Chinese exports shop¡±, creating
an ¡°unprecedented internal social unrest¡± which in turn, was severely threatening the grip of the Communists over the society.
Among other reasons for this assessment were rising unemployment, flight of capital worth billions of dollars, depletion of its foreign exchange reserves and
growing internal dissent, Verma said in an editorial in the forthcoming issue of the premier defence journal. In addition to this, ¡°The growing irrelevance of
Pakistan, their right hand that operates against India on their behest, is increasing the Chinese nervousness,¡± he said, adding that US President Barak
Obama¡¯s Af-Pak policy was primarily Pak-Af policy that has ¡°intelligently set the thief to catch the thief¡±.
Verma said Beijing was ¡°already rattled, with its proxy Pakistan now literally embroiled in a civil war, losing its sheen against India.¡± ¡°Above all, it is
worried over the growing alliance of India with the US and the West, because the alliance has the potential to create a technologically superior counterpoise.
¡°All these three concerns of Chinese Communists are best addressed by waging a war against pacifist India to achieve multiple strategic objectives,¡± he said.
While China ¡°covertly allowed¡± North Korea to test underground nuclear explosion and carry out missile trials, it was also ¡°increasing its naval
presence in South China Sea to coerce into submission those opposing its claim on the Sprately Islands,¡± the defence expert said. He said it would
be ¡°unwise¡± at this point of time for a recession-hit China to move against the Western interests, including Japan.
¡°Therefore, the most attractive option is to attack a soft target like India and forcibly occupy its territory in the Northeast,¡± Verma said. But India
is ¡°least prepared¡± on ground to face the Chinese threat, he says and asks a series of questions on how will India respond to repulse the Chinese game
plan or whether Indian leadership would be able to ¡°take the heat of war¡±.
¡°Is Indian military equipped to face the two-front wars by Beijing and Islamabad? Is the Indian civil administration geared to meet the internal
security challenges that the external actors will sponsor simultaneously through their doctrine of unrestricted warfare? ¡°The answers are an
unequivocal ¡®no¡¯. Pacifist India is not ready by a long shot either on the internal or the external front,¡± the defence journal editor says. In view of
the ¡°imminent threat¡± posed by China, ¡°the quickest way to swing out of pacifism to a state of assertion is by injecting military thinking in the civil
administration to build the sinews. That will enormously increase the deliverables on ground ¨C from Lalgarh to Tawang,¡± he says.

Dancho: What are some of the characteristics of Transmitter.C?

Dr. Lin Yu: As a foreign variant of previous erotic short message virus (Transmitter.A), this virus camouflages in a normal third party mobile phone software ” Advanced device locks” to inveigle the users to install it.

After installation, this virus will be automatically started up. Just a minute, it will automatically access network for about 3 minutes. Later, this virus will send short messages externally at interval of 10 - 15 seconds. As can be observed from the communication record, there are large amount of records of sending short messages, all the numbers to which short messages are sent are strange numbers, but it is completely impossible to find the record of short messages that have been sent in the Sent Box.

After having sent about 500 strange short messages, this virus will traverse the cards folder to send out short messages. Furthermore, this virus can automatically identify mobile phone languages and send different short message contents including “Classic Gongfu stories, City passion, Wife change, School girl, Violent incest… Please immediately access?” A very interesting girl. Dr. Lin Yu: As compared with the Symbian malicious software formerly discovered, Transimitter.C has even stronger transmissibility and harmfulness: It not only has the corresponding server end for coordination, but can also be dynamically adapted to the current language of mobile phone and thus send short messages to address lists and strange numbers in different languages Furthermore, utilizing obscene short messages with links, it can inveigle the users to click it for installation.
